Surprise! Cyrus is the son of Cal, aka my long time OC, the Offspring's Immortal Muse of Memory and Helene's old friend!! Bet you didn't see that coming! Actually, just kidding, this twist was foreshadowed a lot in the story. For some context:
- Helene's remarks at the end of Chapter 4.
- And at the end of Chapter 9.
- And how she keeps emphasizing Cyrus going back to his "mother" here and (more recently) here.
- Cynthia laying into Helene in Chapter 10.
(Helene and Cal's former relationship was pretty spelled out on their respective Toyhouse pages, but I acknowledge that that is supplementary material.)
We're also confirming here that the story the Phantom told Cyrus back in Chapter 12 was about his brother, whom Cyrus doesn't really remember very well, even in his already patchy memories. And considering the Chapter 12 cover, taking his memories wasn't the only thing the Offsprings were planning to do to Cyrus...
It's so freeing to finally confirm the connection between Cal, Cyrus, the Traveler and Cleo (aka Cyrus's little sister), as I've previously only been able to allude to the fact that Cal had kids and that the Offsprings had plans for them. Yes, Cal named her kids with "C" names, yes that was a hint, no I'm not crazy, actually yes I am, I love my OCs <3
